Christmas begins............

Here's to what a wonderful time we had celebrating the greatest gift to all for all time- Jesus!-  and, even more so, here's to celebrating all year long!

In the last few weeks I heard talk of Christmas as just another national holiday or a commercialized and stressful. And, I have to say, as Buddy the Elf would, - "Shocking"

Christmas is a WORLD-wide celebration!  For me, a Christian, it starts in January and climaxes in December.  So all year long Christmas is in my heart.  I carry Jesus with me.  All year I aim to give because God gave, Jesus gave, and the 3 wise men and shepherds gave on the night of Jesus' birth.

If Christmas is in your heart all year long, then giving is a way of life, and your love for it only grows stronger as the year goes on.  It is a priority in my heart- like praying, reading the Bible, or loving my family.

The commercialization of another doesn't put a damper on my celebrating.  They have their reward here and now, but there are rewards that those people don't understand.  Those are the rewards I am looking forward to.

At the end of the year my only regret is that I couldn't give more. So here's to a happy new year and Christmas..... as it begins again.

Choosing the Best Tamale....

Here are the kinds of tamales I can choose from. Authentic, Green Chili, Mexico Del Sur, Yucutan, Black bean and cheese, or Mariscos. Which one I should do?

What's your traditional Christmas meal?

Well, for many families, Tamales are a tradition around Christmas and New Year's eve.  I have a friend who has requested some tamales for her family and I am looking forward to making them.  I will let you know how it goes!

At last, Mr. James and I go out.....

It's been some time since Mr. James and I were able to go out, but a couple nights ago we did. We visited a place his boss introduced him to. Well, sort of. Anyway, we love the place! They give you a silver bowl and you get to walk through the.... let's call it the "ingredients buffet"..... and pick all your own fish, meat or poultry. Then you pick your veggies, and then your sauce.  The idea is to pile it on as high as you can. This was my first time, but I tried to pack it in.

I don't believe I should could go without mentioning that I wanted to try the restaurant several months ago and Mr. James gave a response that included references to a fear of being served cat. But of course he was joking and that did not happen!

Noodles or rice?

Take a seat as your bowl is quickly grilled on what I call the Mega-grill. Mr James and I were lucky enough to be seated right next to the mega-grill so I got a great view. My food came to me in a large bowl and it tasted great!

Dinner for Date night

Ok Tulsa people, this girl wants to know where you go in (or near) Tulsa for an overnight with your sweetie.
Where do you go to dine? Favorite dish? Hotel?

Dance moves?

My son just turned on some music and said, "Ok, lets see your best dance moves!"
I looked up with a grin and raised eyebrows as he began to pretend he was Michael Jackson.
He showed me his best moonwalk as he whispered to himself, "moonwalk-".
He spun in circles, and just now tried to do the splits.

It was hard to get good pictures with my camera phone, but I posted them anyway.

I am getting my hair done today.....

I really want highlights and have for some time.  I posted 3 pictures on my fb page to get some opinions.
Which one do you like?  Leave a comment below or on my fb page. Just follow the link.

Snow Globes

Every time Christmas comes around you start to see those cute little snow globes in the stores. (I like them. I never buy them, but I really like them!) Every time I see a snow globe it makes me flash back to 3 years ago in the Christmas isle at Walgreen's.....

My son was 6 at the time and he grabbed a snow globe from the shelf to shake.  "Here, let me do that.", I said for fear of him dropping it on the floor and having to stand and watch in embarrassment as an employee cleaned it up.

No sooner had the words left my mouth that the snow globe left my hands, went flying through the air and busted on the floor.
My son just looked at me in shock with his mouth hanging open. "Mommy, you told me not to break it and you broke it!"
"Shh! Be quiet", I said in a low voice. Trying to avoid any attention.
Oh, the humiliation. I have to be honest. The thought of walking away and telling a clerk, "Someone broke a snow globe in the Christmas isle", did cross my mind.(for about 30 seconds)

After a moment of temptation, I knew I had to do the right thing.  So I told a worker about the mess, walked the broken snow globe up to the front of the store and offered to pay for it. Hoping all the while that my son would not let them know that it was his mom that broke it.

So every time I see a snow globe I chuckle a little....
and then I'm super careful!

Food for Thought.....

We don't have to look far to find someone in need, but I hope this season you are blessed with a special moment when your heart and eyes are opened to someone who needs what you have to give.

My Hometown Hero......

Born in 1907, joined the Navy in 1929, sent from Springfield, Illinois to San Diego, CA. to train.  He became an Aviation Electrician aboard the USS Saratoga.  The Saratoga was the very first fast aircraft carrier in the United States Navy.

In the early 1930's he met Mary, the love of his life.  In 1934, after being promoted to Chief, he asked Mary to be his wife and they were married in the home of their friend.  No big wedding needed - they just loved each other.

He fought in "the Battle of Leyte Gulf", the largest naval battle of WWII, survived a kamikaze attack by the Japanese, and traveled the world to Europe, London, North Africa, the Mediterranean, and back to the Pacific again.

After 24+ years in the Navy, his youngest son was born in Guam & he decided to go home with his family.  They moved to Lemon Grove, CA. where they enjoyed time with friends.  He and Mary spent the rest of their time together there in Lemon Grove until she passed away in 1971.  He later passed in 1993.  His children placed a funeral notice in the newspaper.  3 men who served with him some 53 years earlier, saw the notice and showed up to say some words. They had received no invitations, but after all those years.... they stood with him again.

He was an example to the boys in his neighborhood and a faithful husband. I was told that he always kept his Navy uniform ready in his closet in case he was called up again.... and he was.  After returning again, he was recruited by the CIA and turned it down for his family.  He managed to keep the respect of those who served with him and under him.

What makes a man stand in harms way?  Where does he get the courage to stand between danger and someone else?  I guess my grandfather knew the answer, because this is his story.

Give thanks to someone this week for their service and their family's sacrifice & pray for all service people everywhere.
